Over 86,000 Iranian pilgrims conclude Hajj, repatriation underway

Hajj is an annual Islamic pilgrimage attracting millions of worshippers from around the world.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Iran Air has announced that flights returning Iranian Hajj pilgrims from Saudi Arabia will commence on Wednesday, June 11 as part of a large-scale repatriation operation.

According to Zahra Bakhtiari, the airline’s public relations director, Airbus aircraft will be deployed for the transportation of returning pilgrims. She confirmed that the first flight is scheduled to arrive at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport at 1:00 PM local time on June 11.

On the first day, nine flights will depart from Jeddah and Taif airports, carrying pilgrims to three destinations in Iran: Tehran, Yazd, and Sari.

Bakhtiari stated that initial operations will see 16 daily flights from Saudi Arabia to Iran, ensuring a smooth return for the pilgrims.

She emphasized that wide-body Airbus aircraft have been prepared for the journey, equipped with special accommodations for passengers requiring medical assistance.

This year’s Hajj transportation was managed with over 80% of Iranian pilgrims traveling via Iran Air from 22 domestic airports, while the remaining 20% used Saudi carrier Flynas, Bakhtiari noted.

The outbound operation started on April 22, initially carrying staff before transitioning to full pilgrim departures. The final group of Iranian pilgrims left for Saudi Arabia on June 1, marking the completion of this phase.

In total, more than 86,000 Iranian pilgrims participated in this year's Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, which formally concludes today.
