Lebanon reports Israeli airstrike on Nabatieh, killing at least one

After 14 months of conflict, Israel accepted a ceasefire with Hezbollah on November 27, 2024. Despite this agreement, Israeli forces have continued attacks, violating the truce and occupying key territories. Lebanon has condemned the breaches and pledged action to reclaim its land.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Lebanese authorities have reported that the Israeli military conducted an airstrike in the southern province of Nabatieh, killing at least one individual in what officials describe as a clear violation of the fragile ceasefire agreement.

Lebanon’s National News Agency stated that on Monday afternoon, an Israeli drone launched two guided missiles at a vehicle traveling along the road connecting Zefta and Numairiyah.

The car was engulfed in flames following the attack and was forcefully pushed off the road due to the impact of the explosion.

This strike occurred a day after an Israeli airstrike on the Chehabiyeh-Kfar Dounin road killed a Hezbollah resistance fighter and injured three Lebanese civilians.

A Lebanese security source, speaking anonymously, identified the slain individual as Ali Shafiq Qanso.

The source explained that the three civilians who were injured happened to be passing through the area at the time of the attack.

Lebanon's Civil Defense reported that emergency teams transported the victim's body and the injured individuals to a hospital in Tyre. One of the wounded is reportedly in critical condition.

Israel and Hezbollah entered a ceasefire agreement on November 27, 2024, after nearly 14 months of hostilities. However, Israeli forces have continued carrying out airstrikes across Lebanon, violating the terms of the truce.

On January 27, Lebanese authorities announced an extension of the ceasefire with Israel until February 18.

Despite the ceasefire deadline passing, Israeli troops still occupy five strategic areas in southern Lebanon: Labbouneh, Mount Blat, Owayda Hill, Aaziyyeh, and Hammamis Hill—all located near the border.

Lebanese officials have condemned the continued presence of Israeli forces, stating that it violates both the ceasefire agreement and the agreed withdrawal timeline.

Senior authorities in Beirut have vowed to take “all necessary measures” to remove Israeli military forces from Lebanese territory.
