Gaza’s Health Ministry warns of imminent hospital shutdowns amid fuel crisis

The Palestinian Ministry of Health has raised alarms over an impending health catastrophe, warning that Gaza’s two primary medical facilities, Al-Shifa Medical Complex and Al-Ahli Arab Hospital, may shut down within the next 24 hours due to a severe fuel shortage.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The Palestinian Ministry of Health has raised alarms over an impending health catastrophe, warning that Gaza’s two primary medical facilities, Al-Shifa Medical Complex and Al-Ahli Arab Hospital, may shut down within the next 24 hours due to a severe fuel shortage.

“If Al-Shifa and Al-Ahli cease operations, the remaining health infrastructure in Gaza City will collapse,” the ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

According to IRNA, despite the escalating crisis, officials reported no assurances or communications indicating that fuel would be allowed into Gaza to power hospital generators.

Additionally, the Nasser Medical Complex in southern Gaza is facing critical shortages, with fuel reserves expected to last only two more days.

Currently, Al-Shifa and Al-Ahli are providing emergency care to the wounded and sick in Gaza City and the northern region, following the forced closure of several hospitals due to similar shortages.

The ministry also updated its casualty figures from ongoing Israeli assaults, revealing that the death toll in Gaza has risen to 54,880 since the war began on October 7, 2023.

As humanitarian concerns grow, officials and medical personnel warn of devastating consequences should essential services shut down entirely. The ongoing blockade and restrictions on fuel supply continue to exacerbate the crisis, pushing Gaza’s health sector to the brink of collapse.
