Freedom Flotilla’s Madleen nears Gaza despite Israeli threats

The Madleen ship, part of the Freedom Flotilla, is approaching Gaza despite Israeli threats, carrying food, medicine, and water for residents.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The Madleen ship, part of the Freedom Flotilla launched from Italy, is nearing the shores of Gaza, despite concerns that Israeli forces may violently target it.

Despite these threats, organizers remain determined to continue their mission, aiming to break the blockade on the besieged enclave.

Thiago Avila, a member of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, stated on Saturday that international coordination has been conducted to ensure the protection of participants aboard Madleen.

He emphasized that they anticipate a violent attack by Israeli forces, but all participants have been trained on how to respond if Israel insists on killing them.

Avila stressed that they are committed to breaking the blockade on Gaza and delivering humanitarian aid, adding that it is impossible to seek permission from authorities committing crimes in Gaza.

The Madleen ship carries essential supplies, including food, medicine, and water for Gaza’s residents.

Activists aboard Madleen broadcast a message to the people of Gaza on Eid al-Adha, stating, “You deserve life, freedom, peace, and justice… We will not stop until Palestine is liberated… And the only sound on the morning of Eid will be the sound of Eid itself.”

On Wednesday, Israel’s Broadcasting Authority reported that the Israeli government had decided to prevent Madleen from approaching or docking at Gaza’s shores.

Initially, Israeli officials considered allowing the ship to reach Gaza, provided it did not pose a security threat, but the decision was later reversed to prevent setting a precedent that might be repeated.

The ship carries 12 people, including Swedish activist Greta Thunberg and Irish actor Liam Cunningham.

Previously, in early May, the ship was attacked by a drone while attempting to break the blockade, causing structural damage and a fire at its front, according to sources from the coalition organizing the voyage.
