AhlulBayt News Agency: A senior political advisor to Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has reaffirmed Iran’s right to enrich uranium, stating that Tehran is drafting a counter-proposal to the latest US nuclear offer.
Ali Shamkhani announced on Wednesday that Iran is preparing a response to the American proposal regarding its nuclear program.
He criticized the US offer, describing it as poorly constructed and lacking any mention of sanctions relief, which he called a fundamental issue for Tehran.
“There is no mention whatsoever of lifting sanctions in the latest American proposal, even though the issue of sanctions is a fundamental matter for Iran,” Shamkhani stated.
He emphasized that Iran will never relinquish its natural rights.
Shamkhani asserted that Iran will not allow the United States to dismantle its peaceful nuclear program or reduce uranium enrichment to zero.
During a ceremony marking the 36th anniversary of the passing of the founder of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Khamenei reiterated that uranium enrichment is central to Iran’s nuclear policy, rejecting US demands for Tehran to halt enrichment entirely.
His remarks followed US President Donald Trump’s statement that Iran would not be permitted “any enrichment of uranium” under a new nuclear agreement.
US media reports on Tuesday indicated that the Trump administration is proposing an arrangement allowing limited low-level uranium enrichment on Iranian soil for an unspecified period.
Iran and the US have engaged in five rounds of indirect negotiations to replace the 2015 nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
However, talks have stalled due to US demands that Iran cease uranium enrichment, a condition Iranian officials have firmly rejected.
