AhlulBayt News Agency: Egypt and Qatar announced on Sunday that they are intensifying efforts to resolve disputes and secure a ceasefire agreement in Gaza based on US envoy Steve Witkoff’s proposal.
In a joint statement, Cairo and Doha reaffirmed their commitment, alongside the United States, to addressing negotiation obstacles and urged all parties to support mediation efforts in order to end the crisis and restore stability.
Both nations expressed hope for the swift implementation of a temporary 60-day truce, ultimately leading to a permanent ceasefire. They emphasized that such an agreement would help resolve the humanitarian crisis, reopen border crossings, and allow the entry of humanitarian aid, laying the foundation for post-war reconstruction as outlined in the emergency Arab summit in Cairo on March 4, 2025.
On Saturday evening, Hamas announced that it had formally responded to the Witkoff proposal, affirming its commitment to securing a permanent ceasefire, a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and uninterrupted humanitarian aid for its people.
However, US envoy Steve Witkoff rejected Hamas’s response, calling it “completely unacceptable” and warning that it could derail progress in negotiations. Hamas, in an official statement, denied rejecting the proposal and accused Israel of submitting a counter-response that contradicted the agreed-upon terms.
