AhlulBayt News Agency: Amnesty International has welcomed the European Union’s decision to revise its relations with Israel, describing the move as "late but necessary." The organization has called for an immediate halt to all economic and military cooperation with the occupying regime.
Eve Geddie, Head of Amnesty International’s European Institutions Office, praised the EU’s decision but emphasized that the suffering of Palestinians over the past 19 months has been indescribable. She accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza with impunity.
Geddie further criticized the EU’s delay in taking action, stating that some member states’ support for Israel has emboldened its officials to openly declare their objectives. She warned that continued inaction would lead to further loss of life.
Amnesty International urged the EU and its member states to immediately cut trade and investments that contribute to genocide and other violations of international law.
In recent days, international criticism—especially from European countries—has further isolated Israel. French Foreign Minister Jean Noel Barrot condemned Israeli attacks on Gaza as a "flagrant violation of international law" and called for a review of the EU’s participation agreement with Israel.
Barrot also supported efforts by countries such as the Netherlands and Spain to reassess the agreement based on human rights concerns. The Spanish parliament had previously approved a nonbinding bill urging the government to halt military exports to Israel.
Britain has also suspended free trade negotiations with Israel and summoned its envoy to London.
According to Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, officials from Israel’s foreign ministry have described the situation as a "tsunami of global isolation," acknowledging that the country is facing its worst international standing in history.
