AhlulBayt News Agency: Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert stated on Tuesday that Israel’s actions in Gaza are “very close to a war crime.”
Olmert criticized Israel’s ongoing military campaign, describing it as “a war without a purpose – a war without a chance of achieving anything that can save the lives of the hostages.”
He further condemned the destruction in Gaza, emphasizing that “thousands of Palestinian civilians are being killed, along with many Israeli troops.” He characterized the situation as “obnoxious and outrageous.”
Meanwhile, Yair Golan, leader of the Democrats party—a coalition of the Labor and Meretz parties—echoed similar sentiments.
“A rational state does not wage war against civilians. It doesn’t kill children for fun, and it doesn’t adopt policies of mass expulsion,” Golan declared.
He warned that Israel risks becoming an international outcast, likening its current trajectory to apartheid-era South Africa.
Olmert’s statements come at a time of rising global pressure on Israel, as the war on Gaza continues into its 592nd day.
Netanyahu’s government stands accused of genocide, with Palestinian reports indicating that over 175,000 people have been killed or injured—most of them women and children. More than 11,000 Palestinians remain missing.
