AhlulBayt News Agency: In an article the Shia source of emulation Grand Ayatollah Javadi Amoli addressed the topic of "inferiority and the desire of the envious" and said,”
"The suffering that a person experiences when observing the perfection of others is of two types; sometimes it is the cause of the rush in a person to progress and achieve that perfection or is superior to it, so that he can be as perfect as it or be higher than it (envy), and sometimes it is the cause of an effort to bring down the possessor of perfection, so that he can be on the same level with him or lower (envy).”
Envy, which is always mixed with some other vices of the soul, is that the envious person, knowing that what the other has is right, instead of trying to perfect himself and reach the right, tries to lower the other from his status. The envious person cannot see anyone superior to himself and since he does not have the desire for growth, he is caught up in the pursuit of perfection. Of course, trying to lower the other is in vain and often its damage reaches only the envious person; therefore, he is always sad and depressed; although sometimes the aftershocks of that psychological earthquake may affect the envious person.
