Iran protests UK detention of nationals as politically motivated

Iran has summoned the British charge d’affaires in Tehran following the detention of several Iranian nationals in the UK. Tehran condemned the arrests as unjustified and politically motivated, demanding accountability. UK police continue investigations across multiple locations.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Iran has summoned the British charge d’affaires in Tehran following the detention of several Iranian nationals in the UK, an action Tehran described as suspicious and unjustified.

On Sunday, the head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s Third Western European Department strongly protested against the British government’s move and the accusations made against the Islamic Republic.

The Iranian official stated that the detention of Iranian nationals violated international law and human rights standards, as they were charged without any evidence. He added that the detainees were also denied consular access and legal protection.

Tehran emphasized that the British government bears full responsibility for the consequences of these actions, which appear politically motivated to pressure Iran.

On Saturday, four Iranian men were arrested under the Terrorism Act in various locations across the UK. A 29-year-old was arrested in Swindon, Wiltshire, a 46-year-old in west London, another 29-year-old in Stockport, Greater Manchester, and a 40-year-old in Rochdale.

All four were later released from custody on Saturday after obtaining "various warrants of further detention," according to police reports.

A fifth individual, a 24-year-old arrested in Manchester, was detained under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act and previously released on bail with conditions. His case is scheduled for review in May.

UK police stated that searches continue at several addresses in Greater Manchester, London, Swindon, and High Wycombe as part of the ongoing investigation.
