Scholars discuss Quran’s linguistic influence at Algeria conference

A conference in Algeria examined the Quran’s linguistic and rhetorical influence on Arabic. Scholars presented research on various aspects of Arabic linguistics and the Quran’s role in fostering coexistence. The event concluded with the publication of a book compiling research papers from participating experts.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Algeria recently hosted a conference focusing on the Quran’s role in shaping and developing the Arabic language. The event, held at the Supreme Council of the Arabic Language of Algeria in Algiers, gathered scholars and academics from Algeria and various Arab and Muslim nations.

The conference examined the linguistic, rhetorical, and semantic aspects of the Quran, emphasizing its influence on Arabic’s evolution. It also explored the Quran’s role in promoting coexistence and tolerance among communities.

Mohammad Harath, chairman of the conference, announced that the scientific committee had accepted 39 research papers from universities in Algeria and abroad, including Qatar, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Turkey, Niger, Egypt, and Libya.

The discussions highlighted the special relationship between language sciences and the Quran. Scholars focused on phonology, spelling, syntax, rhetoric, semantics, and other linguistic disciplines.

Sheikh Mohammed al-Mamun al-Qasimi al-Hassani, head of Algiers’ Grand Mosque, pointed out that the Quran was revealed in plain Arabic with a unique structure and rhetorical style. He stressed that Arabic has preserved and recognized the various linguistic aspects embedded in the Quran.

Sheikh Abdul Halim Qabbah, president of the Algerian Association of Muslim Scholars, spoke about the miraculous aspects of the Quran, including how its recitation impacts even those unfamiliar with Arabic. He also highlighted the legal terminology within the Quran.

Saleh Balaid, president of the Supreme Council of the Arabic Language of Algeria, announced that the council had published a book compiling all research papers presented at the conference. He described the Quran as an infinite ocean of concepts, with countless linguistic and rhetorical wonders waiting to be explored.
