More than 15000 Iraqis from the Iraqi province of Anbar have registered to fight agaisnt the so-called Islamic State (IS) militants.
The volunteers are expected to join two Iraqi military bases within the next couple of weeks. They will be trained at camps in Habanyie and Hain el-Asad.
A member of the Anbar city council told journalists that the Iraqi government has no problem arming the volunteers from the areas.
“More than 15,000 people from Anbar province have registered to join the security forces to liberate their areas from IS,” Hazal Fahdawi, Anbar city council member said.
“Within the next two weeks all the volunteers will start training in two Iraqi military bases in Hamdanyie and Hain el-Asad.
“Anbar Province needs volunteers from tribes to fight and drive IS terrorists out of their cities,” Fahdawi said.
Jumha Jumaili the commander of the Shiite Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in the Karama district stated, “The Iraqi army and PMF have jointly liberated 75% of Karama from IS fake jihadists and the rest of the city will be freed within the next few hours.”
