AhlulBayt News Agency: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has reaffirmed that none of the country’s nuclear facilities will be dismantled, emphasizing Iran’s right to enrich uranium amid ongoing indirect talks with the United States.
Speaking at the 36th Tehran International Book Fair on Thursday, Araghchi underscored Iran’s unwavering stance on its nuclear program. He stated that defending Iran’s nuclear rights, including uranium enrichment, is non-negotiable and cannot be compromised at the negotiation table or in the media.
Araghchi reiterated Tehran’s willingness to build trust and offer transparency regarding its nuclear activities, provided that anti-Iran sanctions are lifted. He clarified that while Iran may provide further details on its nuclear program, dismantling its facilities is not an option.
The minister expressed Iran’s readiness to continue negotiations, as long as the other side is prepared to reach an agreement that acknowledges Iran’s rights. However, he noted that the two sides have yet to establish a framework of understanding.
Araghchi also dismissed reports suggesting that the US had provided Iran with a written proposal for a nuclear deal during the latest round of talks. He stated that while ideas were exchanged in written form, Iran has not received any formal proposals.
Iran has engaged in four rounds of indirect talks with the administration of US President Donald Trump to replace the 2015 nuclear agreement. Both sides have described the discussions as generally positive.
In 2018, Trump withdrew from the landmark nuclear deal, which had provided Iran with sanctions relief in exchange for restrictions on its nuclear activities. Iran now seeks guarantees that the US will remove all sanctions and will not unilaterally abandon a new agreement.
