Plans submitted to replace Leicester’s Jamia Masjid E Bilal with modern two-story Mosque

A proposal has been submitted to demolish Jamia Masjid E Bilal in Leicester and replace it with a modern two-story mosque featuring expanded prayer space, a nursery, and sustainable design improvements. If approved, the new structure will accommodate 600 worshippers, down from 850, with a final decision expected in July following public consultation concluding on May 28

AhlulBayt News Agency: Plans have been submitted to demolish Jamia Masjid E Bilal on Evington Valley Road, Leicester, replacing it with a modern two-story mosque designed to better serve its congregation. Planning documents describe the existing structure as poorly maintained and no longer fit for purpose, prompting the proposal for redevelopment.

The new facility would offer expanded prayer space, including dedicated areas for women, and a nursery operated by an external company to cater to the community’s needs. Additional features include parking, secure bicycle storage, outdoor space, and a covered walkway at the entrance, enhancing accessibility and convenience for worshippers.

Currently located in a converted warehouse that opened in 2022, the mosque has faced structural limitations due to the constraints of its original conversion. The proposal highlights the need for a purpose-built structure that improves energy efficiency and incorporates sustainable design elements for better functionality.

If approved, the new mosque would accommodate 600 worshippers, a reduction from the current 850-person capacity. A public consultation on the plans is ongoing and will conclude on May 28, with a final decision expected in July.
