Islamophobia in US: $75K settlement reached between Georgia man and three Muslim women

Three Muslim college students in Georgia have received an apology and financial settlement after being harassed while praying in a public parking area.

Ahlulbayt News Agency: Three Muslim college students in Georgia have received an apology and financial settlement after being harassed while praying in a public parking area.

Perry Greene, the former husband of U.S. Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, has agreed to pay $75,000 in a settlement to three Muslim college students whom he verbally harassed while they were engaged in prayer.

The incident took place on March 31 in Alpharetta, Georgia, where the three women were praying in a mall parking area. In a video that later went viral, Greene approached the women in a Tesla Cybertruck and began making aggressive remarks.

“Where are you from? Where all y’all from?” he asked, before accusing them of worshipping a “false god.” He continued, “Y’all wanna do all kinds of crazy s---,” and reportedly followed them in his vehicle as they walked away.

The students, whose names have not been publicly disclosed, described the experience as distressing. One woman told local media, “Attack after attack, insult after insult. All of it was just out of pure hate.”

Four days after the incident, Greene contacted their legal representatives to offer an apology.

He later visited their mosque — the Masjid Jafar and Al-Rahmah Community Center in Johns Creek — where he publicly apologized. “I just wanted them to know that I humbly apologized to them because no one should be treated that way,” he said in a statement to Channel 2 Action News.

Though the Alpharetta Police Department denounced the harassment, it determined after reviewing the video that no criminal offense had been committed.

The students, all Georgia natives, said they would donate the settlement funds to their mosque.

In comments to local media, they reaffirmed their commitment to openly practicing their faith. “This is our identity, this is our faith... we will be firm on our feet, regardless of what anybody has said about us,” one student said.
