ABWA Senior Official Denounces Nigerian Security Forces’ Attack on Al-Quds Day Protesters

The Vice Chairman of the Supreme Council of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly said in a statement that the oppressed Shiites and followers of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) in Nigeria peacefully held the Quds Day march, expressing solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine and Gaza, yet they were brutally attacked and bloodshed in the worst possible conditions.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Ayatollah Ghorbanali Dorri-Najafabadi, Vice Chairman of the Supreme Council of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly issued a statement denouncing the violent actions of Nigerian security forces against participants in the World Quds Day rally in Abuja.

In his statement, he strongly urged the Nigerian government to engage in dialogue and mutual respect with followers of AhlulBayt (a.s.) instead of resorting to violence. He also called on the international community, human rights organizations, and global institutions to break their silence and uphold their responsibilities in defending human rights and opposing unjust oppression.

In part of the statement, he emphasized, “The issue of Palestine has always been one of the most important matters in the Islamic world. The actions of the Nigerian people in supporting the rights of the Palestinian nation and holding the Quds Day rally demonstrate the solidarity of Muslims with one another and their commitment to human principles and justice. However, the agents of arrogance and Zionism cannot tolerate this deep human and Islamic bond, which makes it even more necessary for Muslims and the followers of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) to work toward deepening and expanding this solidarity. Unfortunately, such inhumane behavior has been repeated in Nigeria over the years, and instead of addressing these crimes, the perpetrators persist in their brutal actions.”

The statement denounced the excessive and inhumane force used against peaceful demonstrators, which resulted in multiple casualties. It also criticized the ongoing international indifference toward such violations and warned that failure to hold perpetrators accountable would encourage further violence.

The statement concluded by emphasizing that the voice of truth and justice will ultimately prevail over oppression.

The AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly reaffirmed its solidarity with the victims and their families, condemned the attack, and called for justice.

It is worth mentioning that on Friday, coinciding with the World Quds Day, members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria held a rally in Abuja, the capital, to show solidarity with Palestine. However, the demonstration was violently disrupted by police forces. Nigeria’s security forces increasingly resorted to excessive force, including live ammunition, to suppress the protest. As a result of the gunfire, at least 11 participants in the Quds Day rally were martyred.
