AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Ayatollah Raisi described the relations between Iran and Turkey cordial, friendly and brotherly, and said, "We attach great importance to bilateral and international cooperation with the friendly and brotherly country of Turkey."
Speaking with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan by telephone on Wednesday evening, Ayatollah Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi described the relations between the two countries beyond only neighbourhood and said, "Close cooperation between Iran and Turkey is essential for peace and security, as well as peace and stability in the region".
Emphasising the need to expedite the convening of the seventh meeting of the Supreme Council of Cooperation between the two countries in Tehran, the President said, "I am confident that cooperation between Iran and Turkey will bring peace and progress for the two countries, as well as security and peace for the region and the entire Islamic ummah".
Referring to the diverse capacities of Iran and Turkey in the World of Islam, the President stressed, "Helping the oppressed and displaced people of Palestine and rescuing them from the oppression of the Zionists will never be off our common agenda".
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also re-congratulated Ayatollah Raisi on his election as President of the Islamic Republic of Iran and offered his condolences on the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), saying, "I have no doubt that during your term as the president, bilateral and regional cooperation between us will be strengthened in all areas".
President Erdogan said that the Supreme Council of Cooperation has an important role to play in cooperation between the two countries, and expressed hope that the summit would be held in Tehran as soon as possible, so that he can meet with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran in person in addition to developing cooperation between the two countries.
The Turkish President also thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for its humanitarian assistance to Turkey in dealing with the recent fire in Turkey.
