Iranian delegation meets Syrian Parliament speaker

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): An Iranian parliamentary delegation that has arrived in Damascus a short while before the Syrian presidential elections met and conferred with Parliament Speaker Hamuda Sabbaq.

The Iranian parliamentary delegation is comprised of Zohreh Elahian, a member of the Parliament’s National Security Commission, and Fatemeh Maqsoudi, a member of the Parliament’s Internal and Councils Affairs Commission,

Speaking about the meeting, Elahian said that in the meeting we appreciated the Syrian government’s initiative of inviting delegations from various countries to supervise the authenticity of their country’s presidential elections.

She said that the presence of parliamentary delegations from various countries is sufficient proof for the sound process of the elections and observation of the democratic process in it.

Elahian expressed hope that the presidential elections will be a turning point marking the establishment of peace and stability in Syria and the harbinger of a bright future for the Syrian people.

The Syrians are enthusiastically participating in this election and this is a strong support for the establishment of peace and security in this country, she added.

Referring to the close relations between the two countries, Elahian also invited the Syrian Parliament speaker and parliament members to visit Tehran at their earlier possible opportunity.

The Syrian presidential elections are scheduled to be held on June 26, but the Syrians living abroad casted their votes last Thursday.
