President Rouhani in an interview with NBC:

Future of US policies not predictable for governments, elites, world; Americans suffer the most

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - President Rouhani had an interview with NBC channel and stressed that the current American president's tone and behaviour would eliminate all positive grounds, adding: “The future of American politics is not predictable for governments, elites and the world; and this is more harm to the American nation than others”.

“What matters is that the JCPOA is an agreement that has been made after many years of efforts by seven countries and support of dozens of countries, including the European Union. This agreement can be in the interest of all and address concerns and provide conditions for all countries and nations to benefit from economic, cultural and scientific relations. So the JCPOA is in the interest of all,” Rouhani told "NBC Nightly News" anchor Lester Holt.

"US exiting a multilateral commitment supported by the Security Council of the United Nations has a high price meaning that no one will trust America again,"

"Every word was analysed many times by countries involved before its ratification, so if the United States were to not adhere to the commitments and trample upon this agreement, this will mean that it will carry with it the lack of subsequent trust from countries towards the United States because the greatest capital that any country has is trust and credibility"

"One of the options and choices were one of our counterparts not to remain in the current framework would be to go back to previous activities," Rouhani said. "This is one option. And that's not difficult. We can easily go back to previous conditions if counterparts were to not live up to their commitments. But you do know fairly well that Iran will not be the initiator of this return to that path."

Iran would resume peace activities only and we have no intention of leaving the agreement, said the President adding: “So we will never go towards production of nuclear weapons, just as in the past we never intended to go towards that path nor did we ever. It has always been peaceful."

On Iran's ballistic missiles program, the President said: “We have explicitly stated in our nuclear negotiations that we will not discuss our defensive missile capabilities with anyone”.

"We wish to have nuclear energy for peaceful uses just as today, in Arak, there is collaboration between America, China and Iran for the completion of the power plant in Arak,"

“Security in the Korean Peninsula is important for Iran and we invite everyone to end threat and tension and move on to stability, peace and dialogue,” said Rouhani adding: “We have good relations with South Korea, China and Japan. Therefore, any tension in the East Asian region is harmful to us. We invite everybody to calmness, patience, and to resolve issues through diplomacy and negotiation, because in the current situation, tension will be very dangerous”.

Stable relations are built only on trust in future, said Rouhani added: “In response to a question about Tramp's policies, the president said: “The subject of the presidency in the United States is the internal issue of the American people. It is the people who choose the president and it is the people who are free to criticize and use their legal solutions if they do not like the way this administration is”.

On the detention of Namazis, Dr Rouhani said: “Our constitution does not recognise dual citizenship, and so the courts see dual citizens as Iranians only”.
