What reality does Yemeni resistance reveal by downing American F18 fighter jet?

Studies show that shooting down an American F18 fighter jet during the country's recent airstrike against Yemen can question the claim of the US aerial superiority and its ability for effective countering of Yemeni missile and drone attacks.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Studies show that shooting down an American F18 fighter jet during the country's recent airstrike against Yemen can question the claim of the US aerial superiority and its ability for effective countering of Yemeni missile and drone attacks.

During the past days, the US Navy attack aircraft together with the British fighter jets have bombed different regions in Yemen several times. In retaliation, the Yemeni army has given decisive response to these hostile moves and attacked the warships of the US and its allies, like Britain and France, with its missiles and drones several times in the Red Sea. In the latest relevant development, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced in a statement of hitting Yemeni missile arsenal and centers of control and command on Saturday. The statement has claimed that this attack was carried out in response to Yemeni attacks against US warship and commercial ships.

The point to note is that after the joint US-British airstrike, CNTCOM informed on Sunday of an F18 Super Hornet fighter jet being hit during the attack on Yemen. The US military claimed that this US Navy fighter jet was shot down by "Friendly Fire" over the Red Sea and both of the pilots ejected alive while one of them is wounded.

According to CENTCOM claim, this fighter jet was mistakenly hit with USS Gettysburg missile of air defense and anti-missile system as part of the strike group of USS Harry S. Truman aircraft-carrier.

The US attack against Yemen on Saturday and the loss of one F18 worth $70 million was the first operation by "USS Harry S. Truman" warship strike group since its arrival in the region.

While CENTCOM claims to shoot down the American F18 with friendly fire, Yemenis have narrated the event differently.

Spokesman of the Yemeni Armed Forces, Yahya Saree, in a statement, informed of thwarting the US-British attack on Yemen and said, "Targeting the aircraft-carrier USS Harry S. Truman and a number of its destroyers, we foiled the US-British coalition's attack against our country." He made it clear, "This operation was launched with 8 missiles and 17 drones."

According to Saree, the efforts of the US destroyer to counter Yemeni drones and missiles led to downing an F18 aircraft.

He added, "The aircraft-carrier USS Harry S. Truman has withdrawn from the previous place to the north of the Red Sea after being hit. This aircraft-carrier withdrew after more than one time of missile, air and drone attack against it."

What matters about shooting down the American F18 is that the Yemeni continuous and extensive attacks on the US and British warships in the Red Sea have basically frustrated the American command and control systems and air defense and anti-missile systems. Meanwhile, concurrent with the attempt to destroy the Yemeni missiles and drones, which had been launched towards these warships, the air defense system of USS Gettysburg has mistakenly shot down an American F18.

This indicates that the claim of unconditional superiority of Americans in the face of Yemeni attacks is seriously questioned and doubted.

Moreover, this event is considered as a turning point in the effective countering of American attacks by Yemen. Seeing this as a lesson, Yemenis are able to organize their patterns of attack against American warships in a way that they will cause big challenges and troubles for them in the field of interception of Yemeni missiles and drones.
