AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The Lebanese people hold mourning ceremony in Dahieh neighborhood in southern Beirut to commemorate martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (PBUH).
Shia Muslims and followers of other religions mark Ashura (the tenth of Muharram) each year in order to pay tribute to the infallible household of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as well as other martyrs of Karbala event.
Imam Hussein - the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) - and his entourage were martyred in Karbala, Iraq, on October 10, 680 (10th of Muharram 61 AH).
Imam Hussein (PBUH) and his 72 entourage confronted Yazid, the second Umayyad caliph, in 680 aimed at preserving the holy religion of Islam and the traditions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The Lebanese People mourn the event from day first of the holy month of Muharram until the 10th day, which is called Ashura.
Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, Secretary General of Hezbollah resistance movement, makes speeches during the mourning ceremonies.
In Lebanon, mourners start Ashura rituals after saying their morning prayers and pour into streets to hold mourning services.
The Lebanese people hold this year's mourning rites despite domestic woes and the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic throughout the country particularly in southern district of Beirut.
In Syria, holy shrines of Hazrat Zeinab (A.S.) and Hazrat Ruqayyah (A.S.) host mourners during the 10-day mourning ceremony.
Some Iraqi, Afghan and Iranian groups are significant in holding this year's mourning ceremonies in Zeinabia district in Damascus, Syria.
These foreign mourners hold rituals in Persian and Arabic languages, which are being welcomed by Syrians.
