AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): A Quranic session is planned to be held at a mosque in Rey, south of Tehran, in the early hours of Ashura until sunrise.
The event, which has been held every year on Ashura during the past 12 years, will be organized with the observation of the health protocols to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
The al-Mahdi Mosque in Rey will host the event with the participation of a limited number of Quran activists and others.
It will include recitation of the Quran, speeches and recitation of the Ashura Supplication.
It is aimed at reviving the tradition of reciting the Quran on the night before and in the early hours of Ashura as it has been narrated that Imam Hussein (AS) read the Quran and supplications and prayed on the night before Ashura.
Shia Muslims around the world mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), the Sayyid-ul-Shuhada (master of martyrs), on the day of Ashura in Muharram, the first month in the lunar Hijri calendar (began Friday).
The third Shia Imam (AS) and a small group of his followers and family members were martyred by the tyrant of his time - Yazid Bin Moaweya.
This year Ashura falls on Thursday, August 19.
