AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Syria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Bassam Sabbagh has stressed that the Arab country is committed to a political solution based on national Syrian-Syrian dialog and aimed at preserving the country's unity and territorial integrity.
During a UN Security Council session dedicated to discussing Syria on Friday, Sabbagh emphasized that it is Syrians themselves that own and lead such a solution, whose firm principles cannot be compromised, the official news agency SANA reported on Saturday.
Syria’s UN envoy further stressed that the insistence of certain countries to not listen to the voice of Syrians and to not change their governments’ wrong policies in the Arab country and the region has brought “nothing but terrorism, chaos, instability and looting the resources.”
Sabbagh also referred to the recent presidential election in Syria, saying that such mass public participation in the vote confirmed Syrians’’ commitment to their country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independent national choices.
The envoy also said that Damascus reiterates its rejection of any foreign interference in the task of the committee of discussing the constitution.
On Thursday, Nikolai Patrushev, the Secretary of Russia’s National Security Council, said that Western countries are obstructing the fight against terrorism in Syria and use it as a tool in an attempt to impose their hegemony on the region.
On Friday, Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Majid Takht Ravanchi, for his part, warned against the illegal presence of some foreign forces in Syria.
