AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Palestinian prisoner, Rizeq Abdallah al-Rajoub, 61, continues his open hunger strike for the 24th consecutive day, in protest of his administrative detention by Israeli authorities.
The Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) said that Israeli forces detained al-Rajoub on November 27th 2017, from Dura City in the al-Khalil district, in the southern occupied West Bank, and issued an administrative detention against him for a period of six months.
As a result of the administrative detention, al-Rajoub began his first open hunger strike last January, which lasted for 22 days.
Following the 22-day hunger strike, al-Rajoub stopped the hunger strike after the Israeli court ordered for his release, however, the Israeli intelligence re-detained him shortly after.
PPS explained that after his detention, the Shin Bet issued another administrative detention against thim for four months.
PPS added that due to this, al-Rajoub started the current hunger-strike on October 26th.
PPS also said that al-Rajoub spent over 24 years between Israeli court trials and administrative detentions.
According to prisoners’ rights group Addameer, 5,580 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli prisons, of whom 465 are administrative detainees.
