Ayatollah Hashemi Shahroudi's remarks came during a Council session on the 38th anniversary of takeover of the US embassy in Tehran by Iranian revolutionary students.
He described the takeover of the US embassy as 'a big move by faithful and revolutionary students' which revealed the real image of arrogance in the region and the country, saying the US still continues with its seditious acts in the region and violation of its pledges.
It is surprising that the US, the source of different kinds of threats to the region and the entire world itself, criticizes independent states for boosting their security and defensive capability, the Ayatollah said.
He noted that the only solution to resist the sanctions is to rely on domestic capability and Economy of Resistance policies.
Neither the US nor the European countries have to be relied on, since both the US and Europe have joint policies against the Muslim world, Ayatollah Hashemi Shahroudi noted.
He appreciated the policies outlined by Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei during a recent meeting with the visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin, including his offer for removal of dollar from bilateral transactions.
