Ibrahim Barja, a Turkish scholar, presented his article, entitled “through history to cyberspace; the efforts, discussions, and proximity of Shia and Sunni”, in this conference.
“with the advent of internet location and time have been blurred. Websites to spread and propagate Islam appeared in 1990 and likewise websites to fight against Islam did appear. Many Islamic scholars have used the internet to achieve their goals in proximity of religions as well”, Barja stated.
Argueing that division is one of the biggest problems in the world of Islam and is not related to one country or government, he said that many websites aiming at proximity have been successful.
However, due to lack of variety in languages the content is presented in one language only and targeting a specific audience which is mostly consisted of scholars, they have not been successful in achieving their goals. One of the best ways through which they can attract a larger audience is art including movies and cinema.
It is noteworthy that the two-day conference ended on Friday, October 20th, with international scholars delivering speeches and presenting their papers.
