Iraqi forces are engaged in violent street clashes to liberate al-Midan area, northeast of Mosul.
Lieutenant General Abdul Wahab al-Saadi, Commander of Counter-Terrorism Forces, said on Thursday that only 80 meters left for the forces to reach the Tigris bank by which the liberation of Maidan would be completed, thus the entire city of Mosul will be freed.
During the confrontations, the Iraqi troops have killed Baghdadi’s senior assistant known as Abu Yahya al-Iraqi, according to Al Mayadeen channel.
The troops took control of the main street in the district, killing 26 militants and arresting 13 others.
Saadi added that their forces killed 10 suicide bombers while advancing within the Maidan area earlier on Thursday.
