Syrian Army liberates strategic Gas Field near Palmyra city

Syrian government troops and allied militias have liberated a gas field near the ISIS-held city of Palmyra.

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - At approximately 11:15 A.M. (Damascus Time), the Syrian Army established full control over the strategic Hayyan Gas Fields in western Palmyra (Tadmur).

Led by the 5th Legion and 18th Tank Division, the Syrian Arab Army launched a powerful assault against the Daesh (ISIS) Takfiri militants in the Badiyah region of east Homs this morning, overrunning the terrorist group’s first-line of defense at the Hayyan Gas Fields by 10:30 A.M.

Once the Syrian Arab Army fractured the Daesh's defenses the Hayyan Gas Fields, their soldiers were able to secure all points from the retreating terrorist forces
Despite the fact the Daesh destroyed most of the gas wells at the Hayyan Gas Fields, the recapture of this site will pay dividends for the Syrian Army in the future, as they attempt to liberate the village of Al-Bayarat, which is located less than 40km west of Palmyra.

Daesh seized Palmyra, which was the capital of the Palmyrene Empire and one of the richest cities of the Roman Empire, in May 2015. Terrorists destroyed a number of historic sights designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Arch of Triumph, the Temple of Baalshamin and the Temple of Bel. Jihadists also looted the national museum and the famous Palmyra’s necropolis, Sputnik said.
