Abu Diala al-Homsi, general commander of ISIS military operations in Hasakah, was killed along with a a number of other militants under western airstrikes.

Media activist Ahmed Ramadan said that warplanes of the U.S.-led coalition targeted two ISIS vehicles in the southern countryside of Hasakah, killing al-Homsi and over 15 other militant fighters.

The targeted ISIS convoy was apparently heading towards a checkpoint for the western-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), according to the source.

“A total of 17 militants, who had been transferred by the group from the eastern suburbs of Deir ez-Zor toward its northern countryside, were killed along with al-Homsi in the U.S.-led airstrikes,” Ramadan reported, pointing out the majority of those killed hail from the eastern Deir ez-Zor province.

Since early March, ISIS has been mobilizing dozens of its fighterss –mostly form the group’s security police– in the northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor in a bid to stop the advance of the SDF and the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) on the town of Margada and its environs, according to local sources.
