His Eminence, Sayyed Ali Fadlullah, delivered the two Friday prayer sermons at the Imamain Al-Hassanain Mosque, Ramadan 28th 1435 H. – July, 25th 2014. Several prominent religious scholars, dignitaries and thousands of believers attended the Jumu’a prayer.
Following is a summary:
The First Sermon
In the first sermon, His Eminence, Sayyed Ali Fadlullah, asked the believers on the occasion of the end of the month of Ramadan to continue to be pious for the rest of the year. He maintained that as we live piety during this month by abstaining from food and drink, seeking the satisfaction of Allah, we should continue this attitude by abstaining from doing any unlawful acts, including backbiting, lying, hurting others and wronging them. We should also stand with the wronged and against the arrogant.
As we fasted in the month of Ramadan to earn Allah’s satisfaction, we should fast in all our life from everything He has rendered prohibited. When we do this, our life will become better, and so will the lives of others, and we will be more capable of facing challenges.
The second sermon
In the second sermon, His Eminence, Sayyed Ali Fadlullah, started by Gaza, which continues to act as a role model in resistance, dignity, heroism and sacrifice, amid a dubious silence by the world to the extent that it reaches the level of justifying the aggression.
On the other hand, it was expected from the Arab and Muslim worlds, being bothers in blood and religion, to side with the Palestinians, but they were left alone. Demonstrations took place in the West, but not in the Arab and Muslim worlds. Amid these circumstances, the Sayyed urged the Palestinians, once again, to rely on their own steadfastness and resistance and not to let any differences constitute an opening that the enemy might benefit from.
Moreover, the Sayyed hoped that the religious rulings issued by the Marja’s (Religious Authorities) would call for supporting the Palestinians by money, men and arms, and not to be restricted, as they often are, to the internal affairs.
In Iraq, the Sayyed hoped that the step of electing a president would reinforce internal stability and lead to the formation of a collective government that is capable of standing in the face of all the calls for division and fragmentation, as well as the explosions that killed many innocent people.
The Sayyed also commented on the recent events in Mosul, which threatened the Christian presence, and he called for standing against this campaign staged by those who do not reflect the reality of Islam in their approach towards the others, whether the People of the Book or others. The Sayyed acknowledged that there is the Ahl El-Zimma concept in Islam, but it does not constitute the only system that can be adopted in a pluralistic society. Moreover, he maintained that the relationship between the Muslims and Christians in Iraq has been built on the partnership that is based on mutual respect, citizenry and freedom of religion.
In Lebanon, as the politicians continue their rows over the current issues, the country is still concerned about the dangers that threaten its security, while the social, political and economic crises are worsening.
The Sayyed ended by announcing that next Monday is the first day of Eid Al-Fitr, according to the jurisprudential opinion of the late Religious Authority, His Eminence, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah (ra). He asked Allah, on the occasion of the Eid, to grant the Nation victory over its enemies, as well as internal unity.
