2 mosques in France target of racist attacks

Unknown perpetrators have staged racist and Islamophobic attacks on two mosques in the city of Besançon in eastern France.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Unknown perpetrators have staged racist and Islamophobic attacks on two mosques in the city of Besançon in eastern France.The attacks took place in the early hours of Monday morning.Racist and Islamophobic graffiti in addition to swastikas were painted on the walls of the two mosques, Souna and Al-Fath.“France belongs to French,” “Death to Muslims,” “Get out of here, Arabs” and “Long Live the National Front” were some of the graffiti sprayed on the walls of the mosques. This was reportedly the third time this year that the Souna Mosque was the target of a racist attack.An official from the mosque, Driss Bechari, said they are practicing their religion peacefully and in compliance with the rules of the country. “These attacks have become so frequent. Why are they doing this? Is it for fun?” he asked.French prosecutors have launched an investigation into the incident.The eastern part of France is where far-right parties receive the highest number of votes across the country. Places of worship and cemeteries belonging to Muslims or Jews in this part of the country are frequently the target of such attacks./129
