(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The two protesters were martyred in the capital city of Kabul after people took to the streets on Friday and chanted slogans against the United States and Afghan President Hamid Karzai following the Friday Prayers.
The deaths came shortly after reports indicating that the security forces had fired shots into the air and injured one protester with live rounds. Similar protests broke out in the northern provinces of Baghlan and Kunduz, as well in central provinces of Bamiyan and Ghazni and in the eastern province of Nangarhar.
The latest deaths take to 22 the number of people martyred across Afghanistan as anti-US rallies continue in the country. The violence was triggered by the burning of copies of the Holy Quran and other Islamic texts at the US-run Bagram Airbase.
Meanwhile, US President Barack Obama has sent a letter to his Afghan counterpart Karzai, apologizing for the burning of copies of the Holy Quran by American forces in Afghanistan.
Obama told Karzai that the incident, which has sparked angry protests against US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, was not intentional. The government of Afghanistan underlined the necessity for the trial of those responsible for burning copies of the Holy Quran at the military base.
