A senior Iranian cleric has condemned the deadly attacks on Shia mourners in Afghanistan and Iraq, saying that Shiism would thrive, despite all the acts of terror and extremism it faces.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - A grand Iranian cleric has condemned the deadly attacks on Shia mourners in Afghanistan and Iraq, saying that Shiism would thrive, despite all the acts of terror and extremism it faces.

Referring to the perpetrators, Grand Ayatollah Lotfollah Safi-Golpayegani said in a statement on Wednesday that “the savage brutes [should] know that, no matter how many crimes they commit, they will not be able to put out the light of God,” IRIB reported.

On Monday, separate bomb attacks killed at least 33 people and wounded 101 others across Iraq as Shia Muslims were marking the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (PBUH).

Around 55 people lost their lives on Tuesday, when an explosion targeted a mosque packed with mourners in Afghanistan's capital city of Kabul. Four others lost their lives in a similar attack in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif.

“We, along with all the Muslims in the world, being it Shia, Sunni or else, condemn these crimes…and condole the brother and Muslim nations of Afghanistan and Iraq,” Golpayegani noted.

Muslims in Afghanistan and Iraq would remain steadfastly committed to religious principles, he said.

Iran's Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi has condemned the terrorist attacks as an attempt to fuel tribal and religious tensions and create insecurity and instability in regional countries.

Pakistani terrorist group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi later claimed responsibility for the Afghanistan bombings.

The terrorist group has carried out several bomb attacks in Pakistan, but it was the first time it was claiming responsibility for an attack in Afghanistan.

The group is an offshoot of the extremist Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan, which, according to informed sources, enjoys the support of the Saudi rulers.
