(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - A senior Iranian legislator felicitated the Tunisian Islamist al-Nahda party for its success in the country's first democratic elections, and said its victory will further accelerate establishment of an Islamic government in the African state.
"The victory of the Islamic al-Nahda party in Tunisia's parliamentary elections will accelerate establishment of an Islamic government in the country and will reinvigorate it," said member of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Seyed Ali Aqazadeh on Wednesday.
He stressed that the Tunisian nation's uprising is rooted in religious and Islamic thoughts, and said the Tunisian nation revived its religious and Islamic identity by its uprising against the country's western-backed dictator regime.
Aqazadeh said Islamists' victory in the recent elections in Tunisia resulted from the Islamic nature of the country's revolution.
Tunisia's Islamist Al-Nahda party started its first moves on Tuesday for a new executive as early results showed it dominating the Arab Spring's first free election.
Al-Nahda took 28 of the 55 seats in nine domestic polling districts including the key cities of Sousse and Sfax, for a new constitution-writing assembly, the ISIE elections body announced, stressing the provisional nature of the tally.
Massive numbers of voters turned out Sunday to elect a new 217-member assembly that will rewrite the constitution, appoint an interim government, and will have interim authority to write laws and pass budgets.
