Iran's visiting Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi told Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari that Tehran would play a main role in rebuilding the infrastructural projects destroyed in the recent floods in the Pakistani Sindh and Punjab provinces.
Salehi thanked President Zardari for the meeting, and hoped that the current negotiations between Iran and Pakistan would carry forward the progress made during earlier interactions.
The Iranian Foreign Minister also expressed sympathy over the devastation caused by floods, and said that Iran would assist Pakistan in any manner possible.
He said that Iran would participate in rebuilding the infrastructure projects destroyed in the floods in Sindh and Punjab.
He also said that Iran was ready to supply 2000 Megawatts of electric power through transmission line.
President Asif Ali Zardari thanked the Iranian Foreign Minister for Iran's pledge to provide support and assistance in the floods.
Other matters that came under discussion included the situation in Afghanistan and the need for both the countries to undertake joint economic projects in Afghanistan in order to enhance connectivity, build infrastructure, rail and road links.
Salehi arrived in Islamabad at the head of politico-economic delegation on Wednesday to attend the 18th meeting of Iran-Pakistan Joint Economic Cooperation Commission.
During the 18th meeting of the Iran-Pakistan Joint Economic Cooperation Commission, officials of the two sides evaluated progress in the implementation of the decisions taken during the previous session in Tehran in 2008.
At the meeting the two sides endorsed three agreements on Economic and Technical Cooperation, establishment of Iran-Pakistan Investment Company and cooperation in Electronic Media between Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation and PTV and the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB).
The MoUs were signed by Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salahi and Pakistani Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh.
