Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has congratulated the Muslim leaders and nations on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - In a message to the leaders of the Islamic countries on Sunday, Ahmadinejad congratulated the advent of the holy month of Ramadan to the Muslim governments and nations of the world, the official website of the Iranian president reported.

President Ahmadinejad called for unity among Muslims, expressing hope that Muslims establish peace and justice throughout the world.

He also wished health and prosperity for all the Muslim governments and people around the world.

Muslims in Iran and other countries are preparing to welcome Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, when they fast from dawn to dusk.

Fasting is intended to teach Muslims about faith, spirituality, self-accountability and self-restraint.

Iranians welcome the holy month of Ramadan with special ceremonies such as cleaning religious centers and mosques, since they are packed with fasting Muslims who try to spend their time praying and getting closer to God.
