(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - A former CIA officer says those spreading Islamophobic sentiments in the United States are mainly allies of the hardline Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“The demonization of Islam and of Muslims is essentially coming from a pool of so-called experts most of whom are allied with the Israeli government of Benjamin Netanyahu,” former CIA counterterrorism officer Philip Giraldi told on Thursday.
Giraldi also said that Islamophobia is fueled by the US administrations' characterization of international terrorism as an “Islamic phenomenon.”
“US politicians like [President Barack] Obama and [Secretary of State] Hillary Clinton ... are sending messages, constantly, that reinforce that stereotype of ... Muslim,” he said.
Giraldi added that it would be difficult to change this attitude in the United States because the American public has been fed "a heavy dose of propaganda" to support that story for decades.
“At a certain point, it (American public) begins to believe it (the propaganda) and that is really the unfortunate aspect of this,” the former CIA officer said.
