(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The Russian Interior Ministry's Police Department in the North Caucasus Federal District has announced that Viktor Dvorakovsky and his aide Vladimir Petrosyan were recruiting militants.
"Their initial contacts have been proven. They did the propaganda work as members of the same group," the acing head of the department's First Search Operations Unit, Nikolay Olekhnovich, told the media on Friday.
Police operatives foiled Dvorakovsky's plans to leave the Stavropol Territory. "All of his contacts in the Stavropol Territory and in other parts of the North Caucasus Federal District had been monitored by the operatives," he said.
Olekhnovich also sad that "Dvorakovsky's contacts, including relatives and friends, were cut off and he was aware of that and felt cornered."
He said Petrosyan's case had already been heard in court. He was sentenced to 4.5 years in jail on counts of illegally making and keeping weapons, and issuing terror threats, Olekhnovich said.
Additional evidence has been gathered against Petrosyan. "He could also be prosecuted on charges of making public calls to engage in terrorism. A criminal case is likely to be started shortly. The files have been referred to the Federal Security Service," he said.
Computer software, seized in investigative actions against Petrosyan, carried calls to engage in extremist activities, he added.
