(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The late founder of the Islamic Revolution institutionalized the idea of fighting Zionism, a Lebanese Shia figure said.

Ali Qassan, who was in Iran attending ceremonies commemorating Imam’s passing away anniversary, added that Muslims and especially resistance movements in Lebanon and Palestine were inspired by Imam Khomeini in their courageous confrontation against the Zionist regime. “They stood up against the occupying regime of Israel and the Global Arrogance after taking Imam Khomeini’s thoughts as role model.”

He referred to the recent uprisings in the region and stressed that they also have been inspired by Imam Khomeini’s ideas. “One reason for the uprisings in the Arab countries is that the regimes in these countries have been acting in line with the policies of the Zionist regime. That is why the people took to the streets demonstrating their objection to these policies through revolution and Intifada. In fact, the current Islamic awakening movement in the region has been inspired by Imam Khomeini’s ideas about fighting Zionism.”

Mr. Qassan stressed that Imam’s thoughts are global. “His ideas were addressed to all people; that is why this great figure is known all around the world 22 years after his demise.”

He referred to cultural programs in Lebanon marking the demise anniversary of Imam Khomeini and said Lebanese Islamic and cultural centers organize various programs on the occasion which are well-received by people of Lebanon.
