(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Ayatollah Mohamamd Ali Taskhiri was speaking at the international congress for honoring the Shahidayn (the first and second martyrs) in Beirut, Lebanon.
He stressed that honoring the two Shia scholars Shahid Awal (Sheikh Muhammad Jamaluddin al-Makki al-Amili) and Shahid Thani (Sheikh Zayn al-Din al-Juba'i al'Amili) amounts to reviving the path to Islamic proximity.
The congress began under the supervision of Lebanese parliament Speaker Nabih Berri by reading of a message by Iranian Majlis (parliament) speaker Ali Larijani.
In his address, Ayatollah Taskhiri referred to the doctrines and philosophies in the world before the advent of Islam and said, “These unhealthful philosophies changed after Islam introduced principles for returning to wisdom, dialogue, Ijtihad and freedom.
Noting that Islam seeks proximity of hearts and thoughts instead of conflict, he said, “One of the principles of Islam is returning to human unity in order for achieving great objectives.”
“Proximity was born with the advent of Islam and based on lofty human values. At the time of Sahaba (the Companions), Tabieen (the next generation) and the Imams (AS), despite some differences Muslims lived within the framework of fraternity and unity,” he observed.
Ayatollah Taskhiri said the Imams (AS) promoted dialogue and their path was followed by scholars after them. “Unfortunately, however, we, Muslims, are away from one another due to various reasons and causes.”
Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought concluded by stressing that without realizing Islamic unity, Muslims can not realize Quranic objectives.
The congress for honoring the Shahidayn began in Beirut on May 30 and came to a close on Wednesday, June 1. Scholars and thinkers from Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Syrian, Egypt and Saudi Arabia attenbded the congress which was jointly organized by the Iranian Cultural Center in Lebanon, the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, Islamic Propagation Office of the Qom Seminary, and the World Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) Assembly.
Born in Lebanon in 734 Hijri (1334 A.D. ) Shahid Awwal (Muhammad Jamaluddin al-Makki al-Amili) was the first Islamic martyr and the author of al-Lum'ah al-Dimashqiya. He was one of the greatest Shia scholars. Sheikh Zayn al-Din al-Juba'i al'Amili (Shahid Thani, the second martyr) (1506-1558) was also one of the greatest of the Shia jurisprudents.
