(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Thanks to Shia thought and teachings, the Iranian nation has been pioneer of Islamic awakening in the world, advisor to the Supreme Leader in international affairs said.
Dr Ali Akbar Velayati was speaking Monday, May 2, at a conference held in Tehran to commemorate Martyr Motahhari.
He said Martyr Motahhari was a flag-bearer of Islamic awakening. “His role in different arenas especially in Islamic wakening and promotion of Islamic movements was significant.”
Dr Velayati said Martyr Motahhari was among the pillars of the Islamic revolution movement. “From the start of Imam Khomeini’s (RA) movement in 1961 until the victory of the Islamic revolution in 1978, Martyr Motahhari played an important role.”
Noting that the history of Islamic awakening in the Islamic world goes back to 200 years ago, he said, “It was a time when colonialism was invading Islamic countries. Napoleon’s invasion of Egypt in 1798, Russia’s war against Iran and British domination of India were but a few examples of western invasion of the Islamic world. It was at that time that Islamic awakening movement grew in different aspect s.”
He said fighting the corrupt rulers of Islamic countries and resisting colonialism were among the objectives of the leaders of the Islamic awakening movement.
Ex-foreign minister went on to say that it was the Iranian nation who pioneered Islamic awakening in the world, thanks to Islam as well as cultural, social and political solidarity.
