"Qaddafi's government is not Islamic," local daily Arab News quoted sheikh Saleh Al-Lehaydan, as saying.
"He is not an imam (leader) or a true Muslim," the member of the Saudi Council of Ulema (senior religious scholars), the kingdom's top Islamic body, said.
The pan-Arab Al-Arabiya reported on Monday that sons of Gaddafi have tried to nudge Saudi clerics to issue a fatwa against the two- week protests.
The Dubai-based TV said Ayedh al-Garni, a Saudi scholar, has been reached by Saadi Gaddafi to ask him for denouncing the ongoing Libyan revolution.
Gaddaffi has reportedly lost control of the eastern half of Libya, but he still grips control over the capital Tripoli and nearby cities.
