(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Mohammad Ali Al-Shahrestani, an expert in Islamic architecture and founder of the International Islamic University of England, passed away on February 28 in a hospital in Tehran.
According to Nun website, the body of the scholar was sent by a special airplane to Baghdad and following the funeral procession in the two holy cities of Kazemeyn and Samera, he was buried in the holy city of Karbala.
Al-Shahrestani was a well-known Iraqi architecture who cooperated in reconstruction of the holy shrines of the infallible Imams (AS) in Samera and played an active role as representative of UNESCO in reconstruction of the holy shrines in Kazemeyn and Karbala.
He founded the International Islamic University of England and set up research centers affiliated to the university in various Arab and Islamic countries.
The engineer also cooperated in organization of a great festival on Ghadir held in 1990 in England and provided valuable services in the field of Islamic architecture in Iraq, Saudi Arabi, England and the holy city of Mashhad.
He was one of the first figures defended religious leadership in Najaf and actively involved with supporting Iraqi movements at human rights organizations.
