“Tomorrow is the day of the Iranian people's support for the Egyptian and Tunisian nations,” IRNA quoted Alaeddin Boroujerdi as saying on Thursday.
Head of the Parliament (Majlis) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission made the remarks on the eve of the 32nd anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution.
Iranian people take to the streets every year in February to commemorate the victory of the popular movement led by late founder of the Islamic Republic Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini against the ousted Shah of Iran.
“We see that Iranians from all walks of life, old and young, take part in Bahman 22 (February 11) demonstrations and this indicates total support,” Boroujerdi pointed out.
The lawmaker echoed comments by other officials that the recent revolutions in Egypt and Tunisia were inspired by the three-decade-old Islamic Revolution.
The Iranian people's demonstrations this year is partly to voice solidarity with the people of Egypt, Boroujerdi added.
Earlier on Thursday, another lawmaker, Mohammad-Karim Abedi, said the vigilance of the Iranian people has spread across the Middle East, giving rise to the Egyptian revolution.
Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Forouhi also drew an analogy between the latest developments in Egypt, Tunisia and the rest of North Africa to the prevailing atmosphere in Iran prior to the victory of the Islamic Revolution.
“The Islamic Revolution of Iran created a tremor 32 years ago and its aftershocks can be felt today in Africa,” Forouhi stated.
The Iranian official highlighted that the nature of the Egyptian revolution is that of Islam and anti-Zionism - “despite efforts by many who insist to show it otherwise.”
The fact that the Egyptian revolution was created with economic motivations and is moving ahead with Islamic and religious slogans requires closer analysis and discussion, he added.
