HOLY CITY OF QOM, Iran (Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Holy city of Qom also known as the city of Karimeh Ahl-il Beit Hazret Fatemeh Masumeh (A.S) the daughter of Hazret Imam Mousa Kazim (A.S) and sister of Imam Reza (A.S) is fully dressed in black in the 40th day of martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussain (A.S).
Thousands of Ahlul Bayt followers came to street and Mosques to mourn for Imam Hussain and his 72 faithful companions.
Throngs of mourners began converging at the holy shrine of Hazrat Masumeh (A.S).
A mourning ceremony marking the Arbaeen (40th day) of the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hossein (AS) was held in the holy city of Qom on January 24.
The ceremony was held at the Hazrat-e-Masoumeh (SA) holy shrine after Maqrib and Isha prayer.
A large number of pilgrims attended the event which was held at the Imam Khomeini (RA) Shabestan (an underground space that can be usually found in traditional architecture of mosques).
Hojat-ol-Islam Hossein Momeni, Qom seminary instructor, made a speech during the event and elaborated on various aspects of Karbala events and Arbaeen.
He pointed out that the primary objective of Imam Hussein’s (AS) uprising was fulfilling his pledge to God.
“Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (AS) states that the heavens wept over Imam Hussein (AS) for forty mornings, rising red and settling red. As we complete 40 days of remembrance of our Imam, we re-assert our pledge of obedience and loyalty to him,” he added.
The 40th (Arbaeen) marks an important turning point in the movement of Karbala. This day, which is no less important to the day of Ashura is important for many reasons – the prime being that the Ahl-ul- Bayt (AS) reached the land of Karbala on this day and performed the visitation to Imam Hussein (AS) and the loyal family and friends who gave their life for the cause of Islam.
