An introductory article on the Republic of Turkey appears in “Introducing Islamic Countries” section.
The new issue’s (N° 27) editorial reads:
“Culture plays an important part on the international scene as a means of consolidating peace and security and building stronger foundations for a new world where the values of co-existence, principles of tolerance and rules of intercultural dialogue and civilizational alliance prevail, and where the distances separating nations and peoples shrink, not only geographically but also in terms of culture and civilization. Human civilization prospers in a manner that marks a clean break between two eras in the history of mankind, the era of conflict, competition, mutual threats, crises, tension and the regional wars that followed in the footsteps of the two world wars, and the era of economic growth, civilizational edification and justice-based peace.
iqwOne of the objectives of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization is “to consolidate understanding among peoples inside and outside the Member States and contribute to the achievement of world peace and security through various means, particularly through education, science, culture and communication.” This is a first strategic objective that lays the foundation of cultural interaction among the regional and the international environments in the sense that understanding among people should primarily be based on cultural understanding.
