(AhlulBayt News Agency) - "Hall Talayan, 34, is a female spy who was commissioned by the US to capture films from Jolfa border with advanced equipment,” Gen. Geravand said on Saturday.
"This US national was arrested by Jolfa Border police on January 5 on Nodoz Bridge,” Mehr News Agency quoted Geravand as saying.
"This woman was capturing film from the Jolfa border, border police station and border market with advanced equipments posing as a tourist.”
Geravand added that the woman has been handed over to Iran's Intelligence Ministry.
In July 2009 Iran arrested three American nationals -- Sarah Shourd, Shane Michael Bauer and Joshua Felix Fattal -- after they illegally crossed the country's border from the mountains of Iraq's Kurdistan region.
Tehran Prosecutor General Abbas Jafari-Dolatabadi later pressed espionage charges against the three, after finding "compelling evidence" that they had been cooperating with US intelligence agencies.
Shourd was released on September 14 on humanitarian grounds more than 14 months after her arrest.
