According to the daily, a nurse identified an unconscious woman admitted to the hospital as the missing Dr. Sara Arjumand, after reading an article about her in the newspaper.
"I got a call from a woman who identified herself as Sister Shahzia at 4:15 pm on Monday. She told me that my daughter Dr. Sara Arjumand is admitted in King Abdul Aziz Hospital in Mecca and that she was brought to the hospital in an unconscious state three days ago," said Dr. Arjumand's mother Sabiha Fatima.
"Sister Shahzia told me that she read about Dr. Arjumand in Monday's Arab News and got the family's contact details from the newspaper,” she added.
“I asked her to put me through to my daughter, to which she said she is still unconscious.”
Nurse Shahzia Burhan told Arab News that all her colleagues were concerned about the patient since she had not regained consciousness since being admitted to the hospital three days ago.
“A Filipino colleague of mine drew my attention to the report in Arab News about the missing doctor,” Burhan said. “I immediately recognized her as our patient and called up her mother."
Dr. Arjumand, who works at the Al-Mikhwa General Hospital in Saudi Arabia's southwestern city of Baha, arrived in the country six months ago.
She left for Hajj on November 12, along with a number of her colleagues and their families, but went missing on November 18.
Doctors at King Abdul Aziz Hospital told Dr. Arjumand's family friend Bahjat Najmi that she was admitted after "she had a nervous breakdown and had become unconscious near Jamarat Complex in Mina.”
“She was first taken to Mina General Hospital and transferred to Mecca a day later listed as an unidentified patient," said Najmi, adding that the doctors and the nursing staff have taken good care of her.
"From what I have gathered, she is recovering, albeit slowly,” he said.
