Leader of the Progressive Socialist Party 'PSP' of Lebanon Walid Jumblatt said Saturday that US President Barack Obama's policy for sowing discord among the Lebanese parties was doomed to failure

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Leader of the Progressive Socialist Party 'PSP' of Lebanon Walid Jumblatt said Saturday that US President Barack Obama's policy for sowing discord among the Lebanese parties was doomed to failure.

Despite President Obama's claim after he was elected as the US president, certain regional and international developments indicated that the Zionist groups within the US administration were to practically impede the way to restore a complete and comprehensive peace in the region, Jumblatt said.

He stressed what Lebanon needed presently was to control conspiracies through vigilance of the Lebanese authorities.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese leader, who is also the most prominent leader of Lebanon's Druze community, hailed Iran's supports for Lebanon.

'Iran has supported Lebanon in the most difficult times,' including during the Zionist regime's 33-day of savage attacks against Lebanon in 2006, Jumblatt said.

Jumblatt referred to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's last month visit to Lebanon as a very significant event.

'President Ahmadinejad believed that supporting Lebanon is a must as any disorder in Lebanon's political situation would have dangerous regional consequences,' said the Lebanese leader.

He stressed there were many grounds, particularly in the economic field, for promotion of Tehran-Beirut cooperation.

As for the existing situation in Lebanon, Jumblatt said as a political leader he supported the principles of co-existence and national unity.
