“It’s hard to compare photographers taking photos on hajj,” Behruz MNA on Wednesday.
“However, photos taken by Iranian photographers on hajj are better, due to their definitive and appropriate outlook on the subject,” he added.
“I have also seen good photos on hajj by photographers from Lebanon and Palestine,” Mehri noted.
He said that photography in holy places of Mecca and Medina is hard, due to the Saudi Arabian officials’ restrictions on photography in those places.
Many photographers, who had the necessary license for photography in those places, had been beaten and had their cameras confiscated by the Saudi Arabian security forces, he explained.
Recently, the number of licenses granted to photojournalists has been increased.
However, he said that Saudi Arabia has facilitated photography during the hajj over the past few years and every year more photojournalists are permitted to cover the spiritual journey.
Mehri has a collection of hajj photos, which were showcased in an exhibition in Tehran’s Art University in 2006.
